Ingrid Bergman (1915 - 1982) Colorized 1940 photo

Always a pleasure colorizing Ingrid Bergman photos. Here's one from a photo taken in 1940, a year after completing Intermezzo where she emerged a star. The tall 5'9" Ingrid would film Die vier Gesellen (The Four Companions).in Germany as it started to plunge Europe into WWII. According to her biographer Charlotte Chandler (2007), Ingrid had initially looked at Nazis as a "temporary aberration, 'too foolish to be taken seriously'. She believed Germany would not start a war." Bergman felt that "the good people there would not permit it". In 1945, she and her first husband, Dr. Petter Aron Lindström, became US citizens.

Lucille Ball (1911 - 1989 with hair dyed red

Colorized a photo of Lucille Ball in the early 1950s when she shifted dyeing her naturally brunette hair from blond to red and started becoming famous as a red-dead comedienne with her highly successful TV show I Love Lucy.

I will forever wonder what if Lucille Ball (1911 - 1989) was cast as Scarlet O'Hara in the 1939 classic Gone With the Wind. She might have turned it into a comedy. She was among the many who actively campaigned to be given the role, along with Lana Turner and Joan Crawford. Bette Davis was the popular choice in a survey. Here's my 2nd colorized photo of the lovely Lucille Ball in the late 30s  A natural brunette, she dyed her hair blond during the first decade of her career as an actress appearing in 'B' movies and screwball comedies. It would not be until sometime in the early 50s when she dyed her hair red and the icon of Lucille Ball as a red-head stuck. Most people remember her more as a comedian in the TV series I Love Lucy

 

Adrienne Ames (1907 - 1947), silent film starlet of the late 20s

Here's a set of colorized photos of American actress Adrienne Ames, who looked like a young Joan Collins. It was not a long career, just from 1927 to 1940 or just 13 years. During her last decade, she took more roles on TV and the radio and died of cancer in 1947 at the ripe age of 39.
