Hedy Lamarr, ca 1945/1946

Predating Elizabeth Taylor as being hailed the most beautiful woman in the world in her prime, Hedy Lamar may not have been much of an actress, but she was credited for having depicted on screen the first ever simulation of an orgasm and appearing nude (through deception by the director) in the film "Ecstasy" in 1933, a time when screen nudity was never heard of.

Hedy Lamarr (1914 - 2000)

Credited with simulating the first on-screen orgasm (and also appearing nude) in a 1933 film called Ecstasy, Hedy Lamarr may not have been much of an actress, but such was her outstanding beauty it was said Vivien Leigh was selected for Gone With The Wind as much for her resemblance to 'the most beautiful woman in film' as to Scarlett O'Hara. Colorized a portrait ca 1935/36 in three versions.

Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) colorized from a1953 MGM publicity Photo by Alex Y. Lim

One of the less known early non-glamour shots of Elizabeth Taylor without her fabulous jewels, make-up, and stylish wardrobe. Taken after her first adult roles in Father of the Bride (1950) and her critically acclaimed performance in A Place in the Sun.(1951).

Hedy Lamarr (1914 - 2000) , Hollywood Actress and Inventor, colorized from a photo, ca 1930s

Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesleran, Austrian-born American film actress and inventor, Hedy Lamarr was considered the most beautiful Hollywood actresses and was as known as the "ecstasy lady" for her daring role in her first film "Ecstasy" in 1933 when she was just 18. Lamarr and composer and composer friend George Antheil developed a radio guidance system that used spread spectrum and frequency hopping technology the principles of which were incorporated into Bluetooth technology. This work led to their induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame posthumously in 2014.

I consider Hedy Lamarr my third most favorite Hollywood actress after Elizabeth Taylor (1st) and Ava Gardner (2nd).  Joan Crawford would figure in next.  Just so happens Joan had a lot more glamour photos to colorize than any of the first three.  I should add, I actually prefer Hedy for the role of Scarlet O'Hara in the 1939 "Gone with the Wind" over Vivien Leigh (1913-1967

Canadian M4 Sherman tank from the Sherbrook Fusiliers advancing through an abandoned and devastated village in Caen in July 1944, colorized by Alex Y. Lim

Here is my colorized take on a famous photo of a Canadian M4 Sherman tank from the Sherbrook Fusiliers advancing through an abandoned and devastated village in Caen in July 1944, a month after the Normandy invasion. Caen was a critical main objective in the Allied invasion as its capture would effectively disable quick response by the Germans. The battle for Caen saw old enemies, Field Marshals Bernard Montgomery and Erwin Rommel smack each other. Erwin gave Bernard a difficult time taking Caen and delayed the allied forces timetable in liberating France, but after the fall of Caen, the liberation was a sure thing.
