Edward VIII (1894 – 1972) Prince of Wales by Olive Edis Galsworthy, ca 1920
Edward VIII (1894 – 1972) was King of the UK and Dominions of the British Empire, and Emperor of India, from 20 January 1936 until his abdication on 11 December the same year. He gave up his throne to be just a Duke for the love of a divorced American woman Wallis Simpson. Colorized from a photo by Olive Edis (1876 - 1955), Britain's first woman war photographer noted for her portraits of people from the ordinary to royalty and her WWI photos.
