A US cavalry soldier in WWII, undated, possibly 1940

At a time when tanks and armored vehicles have replaced the reliable horse and made the cavalry soldier obsolete, there were documented cases of US, Polish, Russian, and German soldiers on horseback taking on the enemy or conducting reconnaisance.  Some stories here .

  1. If I recall correctly, this photograph depicts a Captain in the 115th Cavalry (Horse-Mech) just prior to World War Two. The 115th was a Wyoming Army National Guard regiment. This may have been after their activation in 1940.
